STAFF

Investors in People

Crown Hills has been granted the prestigious “Investors in People” award.

As a part of that process we continue to invest heavily in all of our staff.

A copy of the annual INSET return is available from the College.

The Staff

Crown Hills has a full complement of teachers, who are well qualified and well trained.

We have not found recruitment a problem.

Such is our reputation for our school-based training, that we have been asked, by the University of Leicester and the Open University, to become one of their main "partnership" schools.

This is a mark of excellence.

We communicate staff changes to parents and governors through regular newsletters.

Performance Management

In Crown Hills we are committed to providing an excellent education for our students.

We do this in many ways, which include:

• Having a clear set of aims, values, policies and procedures

• Having a clear organisational structure that is comprehensive and effective

• Appointing, supporting and developing positive and skilful staff to ensure effective teaching and learning

Performance management is a part of the process of school improvement to develop all staff and improve teaching and to raise standards of achievement for all children.

The Crown Hills Performance Management Policy is based on the Performance Management system which came into statutory force September 2007.

This policy covers all teachers except teachers on contracts of less than one year and those in their induction year.

All teachers were consulted in developing this policy.

It sets a framework for all staff to agree and review priorities and objectives within the context of the school’s development plan and their own professional needs.

Directed Time

The main concern in planning the Diary and Directed Time for 2013-14 is to make maximum use of a very scarce and valuable resource- teacher time.

SLT has looked very carefully at the use of time this year and has put together a plan to enable us to share best practice and to create some training opportunities.

The Monday meetings cycle for teachers includes: faculty meetings, Middle leader meetings for HOFs and KS Leaders, Curriculum Briefing for HOFs, KS Leader meetings, KS Team meetings and Teaching and learning meetings.

In addition we have used the two disaggregated INSET days at the end of the summer term to create training opportunities four times a year on Wednesday evenings.

These sessions will last between one and a half and two hours.

• All directed time meetings are on Mondays except the New Parents’ Evening, Health and Safety meetings and the KS3 and 4 Awards Evenings.

The school day finishes at 3.15 and the Monday meetings should start at 3.30pm.

• Directed time training sessions are on Mondays from 3.30 until 5/5.30pm depending on the programme.

• This package leaves Tuesdays, most Wednesdays and most Thursdays for other activities at teachers’ discretion.

It also allows a greater flexibility for extra curricular activities that will enhance the breadth and achievement of students.

• Staff new to Crown Hills are expected to attend a series of Induction Meetings.

• Around snapshot reporting time lesson 6 may finish slightly earlier to enable reports to be handed out.
